A NEWER AND FASTER TURNAROUND FOODBORNE PATHOGEN TEST SERVICE BY PACIFIC LAB

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is one of the important foodborne pathogens, and in recent years, has been the leading cause of human gastrointestinal illness via the fecal–oral route.

What this means is the ingestion of this pathogen in raw or undercooked seafood is one of the predominant causes of food-poisoning infections. This disease is most often associated with eating raw or inadequately cooked seafood or any food contaminated by handling raw seafood or contaminated water.

Another bacterial disease known as Bacillus cereus is an aerobic spore-forming bacterium that is commonly found in soil, on vegetables, and in many raw and processed foods. Bacillus cereus is a foodborne pathogen that can produce toxins that might inevitably lead to in the outbreak of two types of gastrointestinal illness, namely emetic (vomiting) syndrome and the diarrhoeal syndrome.

Quick detection methods are important, particularly in the food industry, as they are able to detect the presence of pathogens in raw and processed foods immediately. Pathogen testing is done to reduce, and ultimately eliminate foodborne illnesses. It is a process implemented in every step of food production to ensure proper sanitation and food safety practices are strictly adhered to.

The basic conventional methods for detecting the foodborne bacterial pathogens present in food are based on culturing the microorganisms on agar plates followed by standard biochemical identifications. Furthermore, conventional methods may be limited by their low sensitivities (Lee et al., 2014). False negative results may also occur due to viable but non-culturable (VBNC) pathogens. It takes more time to confirm the results, and the failure to detect foodborne pathogens would increase the transmission risk of pathogens.

Pacific lab has a technical team and microbiologist dedicated towards the establishment of a modern and safe test procedure for the detection and quantification of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Bacillus cereus within 24hours. This newest test methods helps to obtain 100% accuracy and quick results, but not necessarily spending that extra money for supplementary confirmation tests.
